Games

This screen is one of two interfaces for the recording game information and manually adding or changing scheduled games (the other is the Schedule Management Screen). First you need to select a schedule that you have set up. It does not need to have any actual games generated, but you must select one in the system. If you are planning to set up all games manually, go to the Scheduling screen and add a single record. All manual games can be added to this schedule. Manually added games do not verify against any schedule parameters.

After a schedule has been selected, the index tree on the left hand side will be populated with leagues, teams and games. You can sort by team and date or date only. If you want to change the sort order, select the sort order you want and click the ‘Refresh’ button.

Manually Adding Games

While the software’s complex scheduling algorithm can be used to generate most schedules, there is always some tweaking required. A game might be postponed, cancelled, rescheduled. In these cases, using the scheduler to generate a few games is a big waste of time. You are far better off adding or changing games manually. To add a new game, you must first select a schedule. Click the ‘New’ button and a blank entry screen will appear (you cannot add games to a Tournament Schedule). Fill in all the fields and click the ‘Save’ button. If the game is scheduled to be played but not yet complete, its status should be ‘Pending’ which is the default if you click the ‘New’ button.

When you add or update a game, you have the option to check and ensure that the FieldLocation has a valid calendar schedule slot for the game being added. If you want to perform this check, click the "Check Location for Valid Calendar Schedule Slot?" checkbox and the verification will be performed. This validation is also performed against all officials calendars that are already assigned to the game. While calendar schedule slots are required for games created through the scheduling screen, they are not required for manually entered games.

If your schedule format is a practice schedule, then you will only be able to select a single team, there is no score and no access to Game Details.

Manually Updating Games

If you are a current user and new to this version, you will notice a lot more fields.  The software now supports a greater amount of accounting functionality for fees (both to be paid by teams, paid to officials and fieldslocations). In order to manually update a game, click one of the games from the left hand index tree. The games information will be displayed as shown above. Make the changes and click the ‘Save’ button.

One important field is the "Automatically Insert Notes of Schedule Changes Made" checkbox.  This field if checked will create a history record in the form of a rescheduled game.  This is only done if the location, date or time has changed.  The software will not create a history record if this box is checked and only the score was changed.

Note that if you enter a score to a game with a pending status, the status will automatically be changed to completed status.

Other Functions

You can change the functionality of several features on this screen from the Standings tab on the Leagues screen.  If your standings are based on points calculated from wins and losses, you can override those points on the games screen.  If you have not selected to override points on the Standings tab, the option to override is grayed out.  If you check Override Pts, then the points boxes can be edited.  You can also allow Games to be excluded from the standings of one or both teams.  Again if this option is selected on the Standings tab, then two checkboxes with the heading of 'X' appear.  If you then check the box, that game will not appear in the standings for that team.

If you change the status to cancelled or rescheduled, three new checkboxes will appear. The "Check if this slot can be reused by another game" checkbox will indicate to the system that the fieldlocation is now available on the date and time that the current game occupied.  You can then reschedule a new game in that slot.  Reschedule Game if selected will allow this game to be rescheduled in the scheduler if the appropriate selections are made on the Generate tab of the Game Scheduling screen.  Officials Cancelled is an indicator used for fees audit and if checked, it indicates that the officials assigned to the game where notified of the cancellation in time to not have fees paid to them.  This functionality is used on the Scheduling Printing screen if generating Officials fees on reports.

Deleting Games

To delete games, click a game to display it then click the ‘Delete’ button. The game and all associated details will also be deleted. It is not wise to delete games in a tournament since you cannot manually add them back in. Changing game dates and times should be done through an update. Delete tournament games only if they are ‘if necessary’ games in a ‘best of’ series format.

Printing

Click the Print button on the Toolbar and the Schedule Printing Screen will appear to print schedules any way you choose.

Games Detail

The games screen provides basic game information. If a game is completed, you can enter details about the game including: player statistics, notes and scoring. The view the detail entry screen, click the ‘Go to Game Details’ button highlighted with a red border. Click to view information about entering the Games Detail.
